FAT MAN, THIN MAN, FATTER MAN...GOOD GRIEF!! I have been "overweight" or whatever other descriptive you care to use to call me fat, most all of my life with occasional spurts of weight loss. I've been up and down the scale several times, (mostly up) and have gained and lost over 300+ pounds in my life. However, I've begun to see myself as more than just a "fat" person...it gets easier to take on a different outlook when one doesn't fight for every breath, or have joints scream in pain every time you move. Dr. Steak-Love, Or How I Learned To Stop Overeating And Love Low-Cal!

For the past 6 months I can count on one hand how many restaurants I’ve been in. Restaurant food and losing weight are usually not synonymous.

However, last night, I found myself at my favorite steakhouse, Archie’s Waeside Inn in Lemars, IA.

When I say favorite, I mean I ate my first steak there in 1967 when I was 8 years old!

Just how I like my steak...rare and delicious from Archie's Waeside Inn in Lemars, IA
I’m still really watching what I eat, but I had a family obligation that required my attendance at this meal. Panic!!

I called one of my mentors, Megan, from Mercy Weight Loss. She helped me strategize how to handle this situation and I also asked her to follow up with me so that I had accountability for my eating actions.

I did something I’ve never done in the 43 years I’ve eaten at Archie’s (who is world renowned for their dry-aged beef. Rachel Ray has rated their steakhouse #3 in the entire mid-west which includes Chicago, Omaha and Kansas City!!)

…I ordered grilled chicken!!!

They have delicious home-made salad dressings; I ordered lemon wedges to sprinkle the juice over the lettuce.

I had a “dry” baked potato.

IT WAS ALL DELICIOUS!

So I discovered that eating at a restaurant is more than just about the food...new concept for me!

I found I could stay within the parameters of my reduced eating program, really enjoy the food, and focus on the people I am with and enjoy there company!

I think that's how it's supposed to be!  Amazing!

So, as always, I still struggle with some heavy thoughts, but I try to let them motivate me to embrace light living.

Thanks Megan!!
